Sometimes, when building or renovating your home, you cheap out on something and then realize later on that going for the upgraded option would have been so much nicer and not at all impractical. Some of them could have even added more value to your home!
Thankfully, it’s never too late to get those upgrades and start living your best home life. Here are a few inexpensive home upgrades you can do that are definitely worth every penny.
Mud Room
A mudroom is helpful in keeping your home clean and organized for everyone. It prevents dirt from being tracked into your home and helps your home give off a warm, welcoming first impression to visitors/guests. Having an actual mudroom built as an addition to your home can cost you thousands of dollars which is probably why some people decide not to do it. If you have plenty of room in your entryway, though, you can get custom furniture made to create a makeshift mudroom. A hutch with seating and storage for shoes, umbrellas, bags, and more only costs a few hundred dollars and it’s the next best thing to having a mudroom made. If you’re handy and creative enough, you can even build your own using various Ikea furniture.
Soft close drawers and doors
This is one of those premium features that can make you go “why would I pay for that?” If you have small kids at home, you’ll figure out soon enough why people pay for this feature. How many doors and drawers have you had destroyed after being slammed multiple times out of carelessness? Soft close drawers and doors make it impossible for you to do this because the mechanism slows the door/drawer tracks down before closing.
Modular Storage/Shelving
There’s really no such thing as too much storage. If you passed on the chance of getting modular storage/shelving installed when you first built your home, there’s no better time to go for it than now.
Outdoor lighting
So you went for the cheap and generic (and now super dim and dull) outdoor light fixture option eh? Upgrade your outdoor lighting situation with better light fixtures. A properly lit home isn’t just aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, it keeps burglars at bay too!
Better shower
That cheap showerhead you went for initially isn’t doing so well now, is it? Drive down to Home Depot or whatever your favorite home store is and just get yourself a nice, big rain showerhead already. It’ll make shower time more luxurious and more relaxing.
Programmable thermostat
If you bought an old home with a manual/non-programmable thermostat, it’s time to upgrade to a programmable one. Doing this can save you hundreds of dollars per year so it’s definitely an investment for your home.
A lot of these upgrades can be DIYed so you don’t have to pay for labor which is a great thing if you’re trying to save money. If you’re planning on upgrading your home soon, consider these and let us know how it goes!
