You know it’s time for another round of dusting when you find your eyes starting to water every morning and you find yourself wheezing and sneezing more frequently. Dust is just one of those things that you eventually come to accept as part of your everyday life. You can’t get rid of it completely and you really can’t do much about it except wait for it to settle and then clean it up. It’s not a heavy task at all, but it is something that you have to keep doing over and over again on a regular basis until, well, forever. Thankfully, there are a few things you can do to reduce the amount of dust in your home so dusting doesn’t have to eat up all of your waking hours. Here are some tips.
Tip #1 Clean regularly
Don’t wait until you see surfaces getting that dust jacket on before you start wiping them or cleaning them. Prevention is better than cure and that applies to cleaning, too. Even when you can’t see it or see a lot of it, there’s always dust looming on the surfaces of your home so get rid of them before they cover your whole house and send you into a sneezing frenzy.
Tip #2 Change your linens regularly
Another thing that collects tons of dust that most people don’t pay mind to are the linens. Those bedsheets, duvets, curtains, couch covers, and all the other linens in your home are prime spots for dust to collect so change them regularly to prevent buildup.
Tip #3 Get an air purifier
The pandemic taught us many things and relying on an air purifier to keep our homes’ air quality clean is one of them. If you didn’t get yourself an air purifier during the height of the pandemic, you’re not too late to the party. You can still get one today to help reduce the amount of dust in your home.
Tip #4 Keep things in closed storage/containers
Doors and lids on your choice of storage can help reduce dust in your home as well. By keeping your stuff in closed storage, dust will only cling on to the storage container’s surface and not on the items inside. Toys, books, trinkets, accessories -- these are just some of the things that you should keep in closed storage containers/spaces.
Tip #5 Keep clutter to a minimum
Another thing that you can do to reduce the amount of dust in your home is to keep clutter to a minimum. Don’t give dust more space to cling on to, eliminate clutter and get rid of anything that’s out in the open and isn’t being used.
Tip #6 Use a microfiber cloth for dusting
When dusting, use a microfiber cloth. This traps dust within its fibers instead of just sending it to fly around in the air which is what most other types of cloth do.
