If you’re in the process of selling your home, you might have already heard of the term “staging.” Staging is a part of the process of selling your home where you prepare the property for sale by showcasing its best assets. A lot of people think that staging means buying/renting better furniture to sort of display in your home and make the rooms in it more beautiful. While that is definitely an option, it’s not the only thing that staging is about.
Staging your home is important if you want to sell it quick. This is the part where you convince potential buyers that your home might just be their next home, maybe even the home of their dreams. To make that happen, though, you’ll have to do quite a bit of work. Here are some helpful staging tips that will help you sell your home faster.
Clean - before having potential buyers come and take a look at your home, clean like you’ve never cleaned before! If you have the budget for it, hire professionals for a deep cleaning job. Everything from the teeny tiny cobwebs in the corner of your living room and the fingerprints on windows to the wine stains on your rug and the mess you’ve gotten used to living with everywhere has to go. Make it your goal to have your home looking like the way it was before you moved in.
Get rid of clutter - before staging is also the perfect time for decluttering. You’ll be moving out soon anyway so why not go through your stuff and see if there’s anything you no longer want or need and throw it in the bin? It’ll make your home look a lot tidier and it’ll free up space as well which is always a good thing for potential buyers.
Remove anything too personal - the goal of staging is to help your home’s potential buyers picture themselves living in your house in the future and that can be a little difficult to manage with your family’s pictures on the walls or all of your names embroidered on the throw pillows on the couch. During the staging process, get rid of anything too personal and replace them with generic decor.
Give your home a fresh and natural glow-up - a potted plant or two strategically placed around your home can change its overall look and feel in an instant. The best place to put plants is in areas where the sun usually hits. Can’t keep plants alive? Get one of those realistic fake plants from Target or Walmart. They’re cheap and they get the job done.
Freshen up the air in your home - still on the topic of freshness, another thing you need to do is to let your home breathe so you can have fresh air circulating by the time the buyers come knocking. Get rid of dirt and grime that’s making your home smell nasty. Go over every single surface in your home and give it a good wipe down. Your goal here is to get rid of the stale odor in your home and replace it with a neutral/fresh scent.
Redecorate your home - your home’s current decor represents your style and your aesthetic which may not be what your potential buyer/s like. Redecorate your home and try to aim for something that’s neutral but not boring. Get rid of decor that’s too bold or too loud, no matter how good of a conversation starter those pieces may be. Move the furniture around to give your home a nice flow from one room to the next. If you like, you can rent new furniture to stage your home as well to give it a better and more put-together look.
Getting your home in tip-top shape before showing it to potential buyers can speed up the selling process by a whole lot so make sure to stage your home to the best of your ability. There are professional stagers that you can hire, but if that’s out of your budget, you can do it yourself as well with the help of these tips.
