Fall is indeed a magical time in Atlanta. It’s the perfect time to explore the city and immerse yourself in nature with the foliage around the city in full bloom. The temperature drops to a moderate chill so you can walk around and see the sights without having to sweat it out or freeze. You can even go on a walking tour
Come the mid-October, you might even start seeing beautiful homes decked out in mind-blowing Halloween decor, just in time for the festivities on the big day. And it all makes perfect sense, what with Atlanta quickly becoming the Hollywood of the South and all.
And, speaking of Halloween, there’s really no better place to experience spooky season in the south than to go trick or treating in Atlanta. Here’s are the best neighborhoods to take your kids trick or treating in Atlanta.
#1 Midtown
The annual Halloween Bash on Penn Avenue hosted by the Midtown Neighborhood Association is a tradition that Atlantans look forward to and love. Come wearing your best costume for a chance to win some serious cash or just stay for the food, the drink, and the company for a bit before heading down to the Midtown Garden District to go trick or treating. This year, there’s no official Midtown route for trick or treat so it’ll be up to you to decide which houses to come up to and ask for treats.
#2 Old Fourth Ward
Though not as big and as bougie as the other neigbborhoods in the city, trick or treating in Old Fourth Ward is still something you need to experience, especially if you’re someone looking for a legit spooky Halloween encounter. There are no organized tours here or anything, no fancy parties and certainly no official route to follow, but it is located just a few steps away from the Oakland Cemetery which could definitely add to the whole experience.
#3 Buckhead Village
Kids looking for the biggest Halloween payday come to Buckhead every year. Walk up to some of the wealthiest streets and some of the fanciest homes in Atlanta where giant candy bars, cash, and other exciting stuff are “The Standard” for trick or treaters. Plan out your route right and you just might get your biggest Halloween loot yet.
#4 Inman Park
As if the Victorian houses lining its streets weren’t enough, residents of Inman Park decorate their homes every year with the craziest Halloween decors. From creepy-bordering-on-grotesque displays to fun and silly ones for the younger kids, there’s a little bit of everything Halloween for everyone to see here. It doesn’t hurt either that the homeowners around these here parts are quite generous with their treats.
#5 Little Five Points and Candler Park
Families with members in varying age groups often come to the Little Five Points and Candler Park neighborhood on Halloween for some fun and entertainment. The past years may have put a damper on what was otherwise known as one of the best Halloween parades in the country, but, this year, it’s coming back and it’s coming back with bang. The L5P Halloween Festival and Parade will be filled with music, fun, food, and other festivities. Some shops around the area will be handing out candies and other treats to trick or treaters, too.
Stay safe and have a frightfully good time!
