How To Make Your Bedroom A Haven For Relaxation

The bedroom should be considered one of the most sacred rooms in a house. It should be a place of calm and rest, a haven that offers you an escape from your busy day-to-day life. If your bedroom doesn’t do that for you, it might be time to consider redecorating.

Decorating your bedroom is something personal. While you can leave the task up to a professional, your style and your personality will always be the number one thing to consider when thinking of ways to reinvent your room.

So, how exactly do you make one’s bedroom look and feel luxurious, calm, and relaxing? Here are some tips.

Invest in a comfortable bed

Your bed is the place where you sleep away everything that a hectic day has brought upon you, be it physical, mental, or emotional pain. If you’re not waking up feeling refreshed and relaxed, you’re might want to look into getting a new mattress soon. A good mattress should feel soft enough to give you a comfortable, luxurious feeling every time you lay on it yet also firm enough to give you the support that your body (especially your back) needs.

Choose cozy bedding

They say when in doubt, go for the higher thread count but that may not always be true. More than the tread count, it’s important to look at the quality of the thread being used when buying bedding. Check out this guide for more tips on what to look for when buying sheets. Don’t have time to learn about thread counts right now? A good rule of thumb that you can keep in mind is to go for 100% cotton and at least 200 thread count.

Don’t skimp out on the extras

A couple of pillows, a bedsheet, and a blanket are the basic things that you need on your bed to get a somewhat decent sleep but if you’re wanting to get that tranquil slumber experience, you’re going to want to spend a little bit more on the extras, too. Get yourself a nice comforter or upgrade your blanket into a weighted one. Instead of basic pillow cases, get silk. They’re nicer for your hair and your skin. These extras are what will make you look forward to coming home and sleeping on your bed every day.

Choose a calming color theme

Colors affect your mood. Aside from sleeping, you spend a lot of time simply hanging out in your bedroom, too, so it’s important to choose a wall color that will make the room look and feel more soothing and relaxing from the moment you enter and muted colors work best for achieving this. If you have difficulty sleeping at night, however, a darker color theme might work better for you instead.

Curtain and lighting tips

If you have money to spend, go for high-quality dimmers. These will allow you to set the lighting in your room as dim or as bright as you need them to be. If you’re on a budget, a few dim lamps that you can use to highlight different areas around the room will do. Try to avoid bright overhead lights whenever possible. Those can cause headaches and disrupt your sleep. As for curtains, go long draped doubled up with sheer curtains underneath so you still get control over how much light enters your room during the day.

Try minimalism

In design, minimalism is reflected by using the simplest elements and having the fewest possible things around to achieve maximum effect. Seeing clutter when you’re trying to sleep keeps your mind busy, making it harder for you to get those zzz’s. Go on a cleaning spree and look for stuff that you haven’t used in a year. Chances are that you’re never going to use those things again so toss them in the bin! If you must keep everything, at least put them away in organized containers. Remember: out of sight, out of mind.

Keep it clean

Waking up to a messy bedroom will never be relaxing. Make time to do regular light cleaning around your bedroom. Make your bed when you wake up, vacuum the floor, and don’t leave laundry anywhere else other than the hamper if it’s dirty or your closet if it’s clean -- these are little things that take up 5 minutes or less. A clean bedroom puts the mind at ease and makes for an inviting haven for relaxation and rest.

With a lot of us still working from home these days, it can be pretty hard to separate work life and real life. Somewhere in there, everything gets melded up into one big, giant, messy blob and your bedroom is the first place in your home to reflect that. With these tips, we hope you get to transform your bedroom from a place you’ve been wanting to escape into a haven of relaxation you’ll look forward to enjoying at the end of each day.
