Spring is still a few months away and yet, somehow, you find yourself wheezing and sneezing with watery eyes to boot -- it’s time to get rid of dust in your home.
While it’s impossible to make your home dust-proof, it is incredibly easy to make it dust-free. Here are 7 ways to reduce dust in your home so you can live and breathe freely again.
Stop dry dusting
Dry dusting with a cloth or a feather duster only spreads dust around and it’s only a matter of time before it settles again on something else. Instead of doing this, use a damp cloth to wipe away dust from various surfaces. Vacuuming helps, too, since it sucks the dust and traps it in the bag.
Mop the floor
Sweeping might be easier but, like dry dusting, it tends to spread dust around too. After sweeping the floor to get rid of debris, mop it to get rid of the dust on it.
Wash your cleaning equipment regularly
So you’re vacuuming and mopping and wiping things down with a damp cloth regularly -- are you washing those cleaning equipment, too? Make sure you’re washing them to ensure that the dust doesn’t go flying around and spread again.
Declutter
Having too much stuff lying around gives dust more surface area to cling on. Declutter and keep all unnecessary stuff hidden so dust doesn’t settle and build upon them.
Avoid rugs and carpets if possible
Rugs and carpets can make a room look and feel cozier, but it can trap a ton of dust, too. Don’t use rugs and carpets in areas where they’re not needed. Ideally, rugs and carpets should only be placed in high-traffic areas to protect your floors from getting scratched.
Don’t wear outside shoes inside the house
House slippers are a life-saver if you’re someone who’s dreadfully allergic to dust. Most people don’t think much of wearing shoes they’ve used outside when they’re walking inside the house, but doing this tracks dust and dirt all over the place. Don’t wear outside shoes inside the house and have a set of house slippers for you and your guests instead to prevent dust from spreading around your home.
Stock up on lint rollers
Lint’s not the only thing that sticks to lint rollers, you know. You can use this nifty little tool to get rid of the dust on your curtains/blinds, pillows, and more.
