Movies and TV shows are really good at making places look so different that you may watch one and not realize it was filmed right in your own city! Atlanta has proven, time and again, that it is the perfect location for filming movies and TV shows. Thanks to the city’s gloriously lush greenery, multifaceted suburbs, and versatile cityscape, directors and movie producers can film various scenes and create multiple worlds without having to travel to multiple locations.
Here are 5 movies and TV shows that you may not know were filmed in Atlanta. Check them out and let us know if we missed anything, especially ones worth watching!
Dynasty
Netflix’s remake of the classic 80’s soap opera Dynasty tells the story of the Carringtons, Atlanta’s wealthiest and most prominent family, as they ruthlessly fight to maintain their social class and their social status amidst family drama and political scandals. The original Carrington mansion, where a lot of the scenes for the series were filmed, is located at 3673 Riverly Road N.W., Atlanta, GA.
Zombieland
Although not entirely shot locally, a lot of the key scenes for Zombieland were filmed in and around Atlanta. If you’ve ever been to Wild Adventures in Valdosta, you may have recognized it as the zombie-infested Pacific Playland in the movie where the foursome went for shelter and to find the last Twinkies on Earth. The mansion where they found (and killed, unfortunately) Zombie Bill Murray is also located in Argonne Forest, a gorgeous suburb located in northern Atlanta.
The Internship
A lot of people dreamed of visiting and/or working (or at least interning) at Google after watching The Internship. And why not? The Google Campus shown in the film was definitely a dream to explore. While the set very closely resembled the real Google campus and the culture there was portrayed almost to o a tee, the campus shown in the movie is actually the G. Wayne Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons in Georgia Tech.
Stranger Things
Although Stranger Things is set in 1980s Hawkins, Indiana, many parts of the show were actually filmed in Atlanta. Some of the most iconic Atlanta spots featured in the series include the South Bend Pool, Gwinnett Place Mall, and Patrick Henry Adult Education.
A Lot of The Marvel Shows and Movies
A lot of the shows and movies from Marvel were filmed in Atlanta. Some of the most recent ones include She-Hulk and Black Panther: Wankanda Forever. Other Marvel movies and shows filmed in Atlanta (whether fully or partially) include Avengers: Endgame, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Loki, and more.
Have you been to any of the filming locations of these shows/movies? Tell us what it was like! We’d love to hear more from you!
